I heard about Maritime Roasters from a friend who was looking for a local roaster during the Stay at Home order. My own supply of coffee was already getting low and my normal roaster hadn’t figured out any kind of decent online shopping option. I went with the sample pack because I had no idea what each option available was like. I’ve tended to lean towards single origins from Latin America with a medium roast.

The sampler has three different varieties, each roasted differently. I was hesitant with the Brazilian, mostly because too many tries with dark roasts left me with dark, bitter, burnt flavors. My second cup with it was surprisingly good. I got more dark chocolate, dark toast flavors that worked well together. It wasn’t dry either and left me with a pleasant mouth feel. The Peru Lima and Ethiopian Guji both came across with more berry, juicy flavors that were more my thing.

The Sailors Delight was another I was hesitant on, it was a literal mixed bag, so I wasn’t sure where it was going to fall. But I was quite happy I had saved this one for the last one to try out of the sampler. I got more of the berry, juiciness I liked, with a pleasant aroma and overall easy drinking cup. It’s a very good blend, roasted just right to pull out what it needs to shine.

I stopped by the Local Farmers Market which I don’t normally frequent and was surprised to see someone selling whole bean coffee. I always get ” ground” and after talking to the owner, walked away with a better grinder than my el cheapo and a bag of beans. I can’t stop raving to my husband how I didn’t figure this out years ago. The flavor is sensational and so rich. I didn’t feel pressured into buying anything, but I because of my annoyance of holding down a grinder button, I almost didn’t buy whole beans. Now I won’t buy anything else, and I always am looking for something than the big box brands. As I’m writing this, I’ll be ordering the sampler pack to see which is my favorite.
